Avi Ben-Bassat is a Professor Emeritus of economics at The Hebrew University. He was Director General of the Ministry of Finance, and has served as Senior Director of the Research and Foreign Currency Departments of the Bank of Israel. He managed several public and state committees which dealt with formulating structural reforms in the capital market, Banking, income tax, electricity, telecommunication, ports and reducing compulsory IDF service. He also headed the Israeli monetary negotiating team with the Palestinian Authority in Paris and the economic talks in Camp David.
He was a Visiting Scholar at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University and at UC Berkeley.
During the years 2003-2004 he served as the President of The Israeli Economic Association and was nominated as Knight of Quality Government for the year 2013.
